Days to Mold + Dew Point — Unified Risk Readout

Enter indoor temperature and humidity. The calculator returns your time-to-mold and your dew point — then tells you which surfaces will condense and exactly what to do.

    What This Means

    Quick Scenarios
Model Caveats — Real-World Timing Varies

Time to mold growth will vary depending on several factors these models may not fully capture:

    • MicroclimatesThe RH of the air is not the same as the moisture at a surface. Localised cold spots can create much higher humidity at the material level than your hygrometer reports.
    • Material and SurfacePorous materials like unfinished wood, paper-faced drywall, and fabric hold moisture and provide nutrients, allowing mold to establish far faster than on tile, glass, or metal.
    • Mold SpeciesDifferent species have different preferences. Xerophilic (dry-loving) species can germinate at RH as low as 65–70%, while others require 80%+ sustained.
    • Air CirculationStagnant, still air creates microclimates of higher humidity at surfaces — corners, behind furniture, closed wardrobes. Good airflow keeps surfaces dry and inhibits mold.
    • Nutrients and DustMold needs a food source. Common dust, dirt, paper backing on drywall, and natural fibres in textiles all accelerate colonisation on top of baseline material vulnerability.

What High Dew Points Do to Your Property and Health

In Dubai and Abu Dhabi, outdoor dew points routinely hit 25–28 °C in summer. Any indoor surface cooler than the indoor dew point — AC vents, chilled-water pipes, the back of wardrobes on external walls, window frames — becomes a condensation point. Sustained condensation is the single most common cause of hidden mold in UAE buildings.

    Safe Dew Point Targets

    • < 13 °C — Dry and comfortable, no mold risk
    • 13–16 °C — Acceptable for most surfaces
    • 16–18 °C — Watch AC vents and cold lines
    • > 18 °C — Sustained mold risk — dehumidify
    🏡

    What Happens to Your Building

    • • Condensation inside AC ducts — black mold growth
    • • Sweating chilled-water pipes behind gypsum board
    • • Moist wardrobes on external walls — mildew on clothes
    • • Paint blistering, drywall staining, timber warping
    • • Window-frame mould and sill rot
    • • Floor tile grout discolouration in bathrooms
    🫗

What It Does to Your Health

    • • Dust mite populations explode (> 50% RH)
    • • Allergic rhinitis, asthma triggers
    • • Mycotoxin exposure from Stachybotrys and Aspergillus
    • • Respiratory infections (ABPA in asthma patients)
    • • Skin irritation, headaches, fatigue
    • • Sleep quality drops with high humidity

    Comfort and Energy Impact

    • • Air feels sticky even at 22 °C set-point
    • • AC runs longer trying to drop humidity
    • • Cooling bills rise 20–40% in humid summers
    • • Bedding and soft furnishings feel clammy
    • • Musty smell in wardrobes and stored items
    🔧

How to Lower Your Dew Point

    • • Service AC every 6 months — clean coils condense moisture properly
    • • Run a dehumidifier (target < 55% RH)
    • • Seal window and balcony door gaps
    • • Insulate cold-water pipes in walls
    • • Ventilate bathrooms after showers (extractor for 15 min)
    • • Avoid drying laundry indoors

    When to Call Mold Busters®

    • • Dew point consistently > 18 °C indoors
    • • Visible condensation on AC vents or walls
    • • Musty odour persisting after cleaning
    • • Dark staining around AC grilles, wardrobes, or skirting
    • • Recent water ingress or pipe leak
